I first met Jim at the Palms Cafe on Polk Street downstairs, he was playing me his demo of all the people that died,
on a cassette, I said oh your Jim, nice to meet you, I knew his guitar player in high school, T. Winn, for some reason
we connected on the poetry thing, I played him my demo, the world of science, poetry put to music in 1979, and he
liked my inflection tones in my voice, he told me to take it down to L.A. and tell the record companies it was recorded by a blind man in a chicken shack, I said wow your right, later we hung out at the Palms cafe, one other
thing is I think Jim came to our studio with Patti Smith after my band members cajoled her to come back after a S.F.
gig and be part of our movie (the UFO abduction) to which to my surprise they said they caught Patti’s hair on fire
during a set with hair spray, you might want to retract Patti’s memory on that, I said in astonishment later arriving
hey what the f-ck thats Patti Smith, your lucky you got her down for that, she’s the punk priestess of royalty, you
idiots. tommy cullinen aka (the sweet tommy band) movies on my space. Thanks for your encouragement Jim.

Is this event free, as it says here, or $8, as I saw it listed somewhere else(I think it was L Magazine)? I plan to go anyway, and would pay even more than $8 to be there. I was just curious, especially since people have been asking me.
    Thanks,
    Algy

is this still going on with the snow storm coming? traveling from ri so it be really nice to know, instead of heading up to nY to spend time in a hotel… please?

  5. admin says:

Yes it is still going on. See our blog post today.

  6. Tom Carroll says:

I had planned on being there tonight but, as I live about 40 miles north of NYC and it is still snowing pretty good here, I don’t think that would be a prudent trip. I want to thank everyone involved in this Memorial Reading. Over the past 5 months I have come to fully realize how much of an impact my brother made on so many lives. I wish I had spent more time with him in the last few years, but there was always “something” either he or I were doing. My biggest regret is that he has 5 beautiful grandchildren that he never met in person.

Hopefully there will be another occasion in the future when I can be there.

    Sincerely,
    Tom Carroll

They did your brother proud Tom. It was a powerful showing and Patti ended it with “People who died.” Brought tears to my eyes.

I enjoyed the memorial reading and reviewed it at my website, here:

I didn’t say anything about the music or the musicians for the most part because I don’t know anything about music for the most part but I did like the musical segments.

For the night of a ferocious storm, it was an amazing turn-out.
