Carlos T. Blackburn & Betsy Fagin

Carlos T. Blackburn, author of Portraits (2006) and The Selected Poems of Hamster (2008). Born at the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children, 1969; raised in Brooklyn. Poems have surfaced in Land of the Weejis, Aeroplano, 6×6 and Watchword. Work as a soccer coach, bike messenger, roller coaster operator, collegian (anthropology), fish monger, copy editor, demolition worker, bartender and teacher all form a part of his résumé. Presently in the last year of his training as a physical therapist in Glasgow, Scotland. Betsy Fagin is the author of Belief Opportunity (Big Game Books, 2008), Rosemary Stretch (dusie e/chap, 2006) and For every solution there is a problem (Open 24 Hours, 2003), as well as a number of self-published chapbooks.

Steve Carey Book Party

Edmund Berrigan and Anselm Berrigan co-edited Steve Carey’s Selected Poems for Subpress. The book will be available for the reading. Carey’s books include The California Papers (United Artists), Gentle Subsidy (Big Sky), Smith Going Backwards (Cranium Press), and 20 Poems (Unimproved Editions Press). Anselm Berrigan writes of him: “He was like this huge guy who wouldn’t harm a soul, with a deep voice and ability to loom. Bob Newhart and Jimi Hendrix and Philip Whalen.” Carey passed away in 1989. With Anselm Berrigan, Edmund Berrigan, Tom Carey, Peggy DeCoursey, Marion Farrier, Greg Fuchs, Eileen Myles, Elinor Nauen, Simon Pettet, Harris Schiff and others.

Spring Workshop Reading

Tina Brown Celona & Marc Nasdor

Tina Brown Celona is a graduate of Brown University and the Iowa Writers Workshop and the author of Songs and Scores (chapbook; Spectacular Books 1999), The Real Moon of Poetry and Other Poems (Fence 2002), winner of the 2002 Alberta Prize, and Snip Snip! (Fence 2006). Currently working on a Ph.D. in English at the University of Denver, where she is studying Edwardian novels, Renaissance poetics, the philosophy of the Enlightenment, and prosody. Her work has appeared in Shampoo, Octopus, La Petite Zine, The Canary, Fence, and Colorado Review. Marc Nasdor’s most recent book is Sonnetailia, published by Roof Books in 2007. A book-length poem, Treni in Partenza, was published in Temblor 7 in 1988. In 1993, he ceased all writing activity until returning to it in 2006. He is currently working on a new series of poems, Insurgentes. He also spins global party music in the Lower East Side under the name DJ Poodlecannon, and has recently performed in Budapest and Pécs (Hungary), and in Mérida, Yucatan (Mexico).
